Great music isn’t just something you hear, it’s something you can feel as well. The feeling in the voice of local singer/songwriter Cory Dutton is full of emotion and can turn country music skeptics into country dancers…..just ask Taylor with LBK Now!

The Cory Dutton Band includes Cory on vocals/bass, Jason Newton on drums, Jeff James on guitar and newest member Tina Gola on fiddle. Tina is a classically trained violinist but found that classical music isn’t as much fun to play as country music.

With a Texas Honky Tonk and Southern Rock style, they like to mix things up. Combining classic country technique and rugged Southern Rock keeps their music edgy and catchy. Their live shows are high energy and will literally make you want to get up and dance. Another way the band mixes things up, is by inviting guest musicians onstage to perform a song or two.

The band plays a mix of covers and original songs. Cory writes the majority of songs, however some of them were written by Cory’s father. His father was in a band himself, and it was he who inspired Cory to pursue music. When it comes to songwriting, Cory draws inspiration everywhere. Some songs come from personal experiences and others are purely fictional.

Influences include Charlie Robison, Keith Gattis, Johnny Cash and of course Merle Haggard. Chances are if you attend one of their live songs, you’ll hear some of those old favorites from these artists such as “Folsom Prison Blues” or “My Hometown.”

Cory is also very humble when it comes to his talent. Not one to boast about himself, it’s hard to get this extremely talented musician to toot his own horn so to speak. Cory rather speaks favorably of everyone else in the group and says they are a team and he wouldn’t be able to do it without them.

In 2006, The Cory Dutton Band released their first CD entitled “Color Me Gone.” The CD is available for purchase at Hastings, online at www.lonestarmusic.com or at any live show. Cory hopes to release a follow-up CD sometime in the near future.

The Cory Dutton Band plays every Wednesday night at The Sting. They also take their show on the road and perform in Midland, Odessa, Amarillo, Big Spring and Eastern New Mexico.
